Staffordshire primary school receives festive boost from housebuilder

- 25 Nov 19

School students Laila Mai, Amelie Walton, Archie Powell and George Hatten
St Leonard’s, a primary school in the Staffordshire village of Dunston, has received £1,000 from a local housebuilder towards a new library facility, as well as festive selection boxes for the children’s Christmas lunch.

Bovis Homes, whose Sancerre Grange development is in nearby Eccleshall, made the donation to the primary school, which has 58 pupils between the ages of four to nine.

Joanne Morrison, regional managing director in Bovis Homes’ Mercia region, said: “As a local business we feel it is vitally important to support the communities we operate in.

“Providing support towards the new library at St. Leonard’s in Dunston will not only give the children a great place to learn in, but will also encourage reading at all levels.

“The children’s Christmas lunch is a special occasion in the school’s calendar too, and we’re delighted to donate selection boxes, which allows the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association to allocate their funds to other worthy causes.

“We’re delighted to help the school and look forward to developing strong links with them in the future and wish them every success”.

Executive head teacher at St Leonard’s, Tracey Parton, added: “We are aiming to create an environment where children engage, enjoy and are excited by the pleasures of reading.  It will be a place where children and adults can be curious and learn about what is and what can be.

“The new library will be a world where words and images can be accessed by all and dreams are made.”

When asked why the library is so important to them, Laila, a student at the school said: “We can learn more about the world we live in.” Meanwhile fellow pupil, George, highlighted that libraries are good places to “be social and see your friends, as well as read”.

Sancerre Grange is situated in the beautiful Sow Valley in the town of Eccleshall. Known for its family orientated community, the new homes are in an ideal location for commuters, while offering a back-drop of green space.

The development has three, four and five-bedroom homes available from the housebuilder’s new collection, which have been designed to maximise spacious, contemporary living. Find out more about Sancerre Grange, on Bovis Homes' website.

The school’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association is aiming to raise £5,000 for the library. Donations can be made via their Just Giving page.
