Triumph for Will Power with runner set to raise the roof!

- 18 Apr 17

A local house builder will be cheering on a Dawlish roofer this weekend, as he runs the London Marathon to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

The aptly-named Will Power hopes to exceed the £6,000 total he raised last year for bereaved children's charity Winston's Wish by running the 26-plus miles, and Bovis Homes were delighted to sponsor him after he and his family moved to their Woodlands location in Dawlish.

Will and his wife, Erica, were in desperate need of a bigger house when their household grew from four to seven after fostering three children who had lost their mum, a close friend of the Powers. The family found the ideal home at Woodlands, which was close to their crowded three-bedroom, semi-detached house, and when Bovis Homes heard about his fund-raising efforts, they offered their support.

"I've been doing some training, but I've not been able to do as much as I would have liked," says Will. "I've been doing short and intermediate runs, but I haven't had much time to train properly. Running last year's marathon was the best experience I have ever had. The atmosphere and the feeling you have as you run round is something you really can't replicate."

Will and family are now settling in to their new home at Dawlish. "We desperately needed more space and weren't necessarily looking for a new-build home," he says. "We had a look around the Woodlands and the five-bedroom Faulkner house type fitted what we were looking for."

After visiting the sales centre and reserving their new home, Will, who has been a roofer for 20 years, actually began working at the development.

"I was working for the firm which was contracted to put the roofs on the houses. I had completed a few of the other properties and then I requested to do the roofing work on my own home!" says Will.

"The Faulkner was a nice size and had everything we needed - we liked the layout and it had a good sized garden. It just ticked all the boxes for us."

Will and Erica moved into the new home at the end of last year with the rest of the family, aged between two and 14 years old.

"The site and the sales team have been exceptionally brilliant," says Will. "Our Sales Advisor, Theresa was been wonderful and guided us through the whole process.

"The house is great and the kids love it. In our old home, the eldest was sleeping on a blow-up bed in the dining room. Now she has a lovely big room - with her own en suite. The house is just perfect for us."

Now settled in his new home, Will is focusing on his next challenge around the streets of London.
