Vistry staff’s football match for its charity of the year, Papyrus

- 14 Apr 22

Two regional business units of Vistry Group, which builds properties for Bovis Homes and Linden Homes, went head-to-head by taking part in a 6-a-side football match, for its charity of the year, Papyrus. Papyrus is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and aims to not only support young people struggling, but to also raise awareness and shatter the stigma around suicide. One of the key ways it supports young people is through its helpline, HOPELINEUK, which provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide and anyone worried about a young person. In recent years, demand for the helpline, which is currently open from 9am until midnight, has dramatically increased and the charity is hoping to open it all hours of the day. The two regions: Vistry Cotswolds, based in Bishop’s Cleeve, and Vistry Western, which has its head office in Bristol, both put together a team and played at Wycliffe College in Stonehouse near Stroud, with Cotswolds winning 9-1. The grounds are near the company’s Great Oldbury development in Stonehouse. The match, which was followed by a drink at The Old Badger Inn, was a great opportunity for the two regions to socialise, enjoy a game of footy and raise over £200 for Papyrus. Organiser, Toby Platt commented: “Papyrus is a fantastic charity and we’ll be taking part in a range of activities over the next year to support the incredible work they do – from bake sales and golf days to netball matches and sponsored runs. “The football match was a fun way to raise money and socialise with colleagues and we hope there will be plenty more games in the future!” The Vistry Western squad comprised: Ross Clayton, Llew Lloyd, Matthew Lambie, Tom Kendall, Oscar Williams (scored x1), Steve James, Iain Shirras and Rhys Ioan Williams. The Vistry Cotswolds squad featured: Dan Cook (scored x3), Brad Martin, Robbie Brown, Toby Platt (scored x1), Charles Bond (scored x 1), Adam Elvin (scored x 3), Craig Doyle (scored x1) and Ben Stoddart.
