Vistry to start on first phase of 200 new homes at Cambourne West near Cambridge

- 18 Jun 20

Home hunters in Cambridgeshire are set to benefit after Vistry Group secured reserved matters planning approval for 200 homes at a new location close to the popular Cambourne community.

Cambourne West location plan
Vistry, which includes Bovis Homes and Linden Homes, aims to start work on its first phase of Cambourne West in the coming months.

The latest approval gives the green light to phase one of Vistry’s £240 million development of 783 homes. There will be 139 private and 61 affordable properties – both shared ownership and rented homes – in phase one.

As part of its section 106 financial contributions, Vistry will spend more than £15 million on community facilities and improvements, including towards two new primary schools, a community centre, sports pitches and allotments.

James Shuttleworth, regional technical director at Vistry, said: “Cambourne West is an impressive community project bringing much-needed quality new homes to Cambridgeshire. We’re delighted with how plans have progressed and look forward to building modern properties for families, couples and individuals, later this year.

“As well as this vital housing, the community will benefit from two new primary schools, an extension to the secondary school, a community centre, play space, allotments and business and retail opportunities. It is an exciting time for local home hunters and businesses and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

Vistry and housing association Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing have joined forces to build the properties – which will range from one-bed apartments to five-bed houses – and provide the new facilities. Vistry will contribute nearly £9 million towards education, including the expansion of the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ secondary school and the building of the primary schools.

The housebuilder is also contributing £3.1 million towards highway improvements, all within a landscape-led, sustainable environment.

Vistry’s development is part of the wider 2,350 Cambourne West location, which is a joint venture between Vistry and housebuilder Taylor Wimpey.

Nearby is the Vistry and Taylor Wimpey Cambourne location, made up of around 4,000 homes, built between 2008 and 2018, and now an established community.
