“We bought our family home in Wells thanks to Home Reach”

Simon, Alina and their family have moved to a new home at Priory Fields in Wells, thanks to the Home Reach scheme. The Bovis Homes development offers the part-buy-part-rent Home Reach initiative on selected properties, which can help buyers afford the space they need. Simon, 39, has just qualified as a bricklayer and Alina, 41, is a sales advisor. They bought their three bedroom home at Priory Fields and moved last summer with Keira, 13 and April, 1. Speaking about their experience, Simon commented: “We were renting a two bedroom property in Frome, before moving to Wells. It was nice enough but it was too small for our growing family and we really wanted to have a house of our own. “As I’m a bricklayer, I’d actually worked at Priory Fields before! We saw the property on Rightmove and then found out about the Home Reach scheme. “It absolutely helped us. For the money that we had managed to save while renting, we would have been able to afford a two bedroom flat at most, which just wasn’t practical for us. We couldn’t believe our luck. “Put simply, Home Reach allowed us to move house. Without it, we wouldn’t have been able to afford a mortgage or raise a big enough deposit. With high rental costs, you find yourself trapped and not being able to save anything, then at the end of your tenancy you are still left with nothing. However, with Home Reach the money we’re paying is our investment and it’s not just given away to a landlord. “We bought our three bedroom Hazel home, which is semi-detached, with a garage and a good-sized garden. Although I didn’t build the house we bought, I know who did, so I knew I was in safe hands! I really liked the stone work and the build quality was excellent. With a new build you have peace of mind that the house is sound and covered by the NHBC guarantee too. “Our favourite part of our new home is just the amount of space we have compared to our previous house. The garden is a nice size and everything is just so clean and fresh. “We wanted a house that we could move straight into, without having to do any repairs, as I’m busy enough at work. Plus, we liked the fact that no-one had lived in it before so it really is ‘our house’.” Simon added: “In our previous home, the two girls had to share a room and even though Keira didn’t seem to mind, I know that having her own room gives her the space and independence to be a teenager. Keira lives with her mum during the week, which is only a five-minute walk from our new home, so it's been a fantastic move for the children too. “Wells seems to have everything you need on your doorstep. We are a mile from the leisure centre and local schools, and it’s central for both of our jobs. “Wells is a beautiful city; it’s very green and the people are friendly. We love the Saturday market and they hold events in and around the Bishop's Palace, like medieval days and the moat boat race, which are good fun. It really feels like we’ve really landed on our feet and we couldn’t be happier!” Sales and marketing director, Sue Scholfield commented: “We’re delighted that Simon and Alina have bought their family home and have the space they need. Home Reach is a fantastic scheme that can really make a difference and it’s wonderful to hear that they’ve reached this milestone. We hope they’re very settled at Priory Fields for many years, it’s a brilliant place to raise a family.” Priory Fields is a new development of two, three and four bedroom homes, located in the heart of Somerset in the charming city of Wells. There are currently two and three bedroom houses available from £389,995, or from £143,750 with the part-rent-part-buy Home Reach scheme, with a 50 per cent share.
