Patrick Deloughery, 19, is completing Bovis Homes’ 12-month trainee assistant site manager programme at the housebuilder’s Wendelburie Rise location, at Stanton Cross, while completing the fourth year of his apprenticeship.

The teenager said he had a strong team around him at Bovis Homes – part of the newly-formed Vistry Group – and urged other ambitious apprentices to follow the same career route.

Patrick, who is halfway through his NVQ Level 4 bricklaying apprenticeship, which he is striving towards on top of his five-day working week, said: “I’m delighted to be doing the TASM programme to further my career in construction and I hope in the future to be a site manager.

“I’ve learnt more about different trades on site, health and safety, sales, and customers. I would encourage other apprentices to progress onto the TASM programme as you can learn more about the wider housing industry and pick up people management skills.

“During my bricklaying apprenticeship, I have learnt multiple skills, including communication, building different house types, and liaising with site management on drawings and specifications. It’s great working at Wendelburie Rise because there’s a brilliant team and group of people here.”

Patrick has undertaken his apprenticeship through training provider Construction Training Specialists Ltd in Norwich, learning theory and taking part in practical assessments while improving his Maths and English. He has also been celebrated by the housebuilder, winning Apprentice of the Year for his region, Northern Home Counties, at the Bovis Homes Annual Awards 2019.

Paul Dearsley, Bovis Homes project manager at Wendelburie Rise, said: “Patrick is six months through his TASM at Wendelburie Rise, he’s halfway through his NVQ Level 4 and at the end of it, hopefully by the end of this year, he’ll be fully qualified to be one of our assistant site managers.

"Wendelburie Rise is Bovis Homes’ flagship location, due to the size of the land, and I’m proud to be part of it.

“Bovis Homes recognises that there is a huge shortage of people coming through the industry, which is why we’re encouraging apprentices and TASMs as much as we can.”

Bovis Homes’ TASM programme aims to progress talented people within the company to assistant site manager and helps them gain the relevant qualifications.
