Wincanton pupils get an insight into town's growth

- 18 Dec 15

The Year 2 pupils at Wincanton Primary School got a close-up look at how their community is evolving when they visited Bovis Homes' new homes location 'The Chase' in the town recently.

And they gave the tour of the West Hill development a resounding thumbs-up after learning about the build process and how the new homes are then marketed and sold to local home buyers.

"The children were very impressed to hear about how the homes are built and the timescales involved," said teacher Sarah Sellick. "They are learning about the growth of Wincanton in lessons, but to visit a new and developing part of the community like this really brings the concept to life.

"They were able to understand why different materials are used for different purposes and having seen the process in action, they were very impressed to visit the completed show home.

"The run up to Christmas is clearly a busy time of year with people moving in, and we're very grateful that Bovis Homes were able to accommodate 58 six-year-olds and talk to them about the industry!"

Bovis Homes site manager Ian Ellis, who helped to arrange the visit, said: "We like to work closely with the communities in which we operate and these homes are being built for the future generations of the town like these youngsters.

"It was great to be able to welcome them to The Chase and their questions were certainly intelligent and insightful. We felt as though we'd had a right grilling at the end!"

After the visit, the children set about writing poems and drawing pictures inspired by the visit as part of their project, and the school will be showing these to the Bovis Homes team at the development in due course.
