Young Milton Keynes housebuilder highlights quality-first approach with major award win

A team-focused site manager at a Milton Keynes housebuilder, which prides itself on quality, is one of the youngest ever to win a prestigious housing award.

Jack Allen, 24, who works at Bovis Homes’ Whitehouse Park location, in Crownhill – where the housebuilder has invested heavily to ensure top quality homes – has been named the Regional Winner in the National House Building Council (NHBC)’s Southern Pride in the Job Awards 2019.

The recognition comes after Jack received a Seal of Excellence for the second year in a row. Back in the summer he won a Pride in the Job Quality Award for the region after being picked from more than 16,000 site managers across the UK.

Jack was then invited to the Southern regional awards at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, earlier this month. He was picked from ten Seal of Excellence winners as the regional champion in the large housebuilder category, which means he now has a chance of winning a Supreme award in the next round of judging in London in January.

Jack said: “I feel so honoured to have been named Regional Winner, as well as receiving the NHBC Seal of Excellence for the second time! To be selected from a dozen award-winning site managers is such a great feeling.

“To win the Seal of Excellence once is huge and I can't believe I've now won it for a second time - it's a massive milestone and one that I hope furthers my career even more in the industry.

“We have a fantastic team at Milton Keynes, made up of dedicated individuals, who are committed to producing homes of the highest quality to the customer and that's why we’ve won these awards."

Jack, who attended Walton High school, started his career in house building as a labourer and storeman and worked his way up to site manager.

Peter Stone, regional build director at Bovis Homes, said: “We are enormously proud of Jack’s Regional Winner accolade and of all the contractors on our Milton Keynes location.

"I very much admire Jack’s perseverance and passion, he wants to be the best at what he does and for him to achieve this at 24 years old is tremendous.

"Jack raises the bar at his location and we have total admiration and respect for how he sets the standard.

“We have spent a lot of resource at Whitehouse Park and quality is at the forefront of everything we do, not just in Milton Keynes, but across all our locations.”

Toby Phillips, operations manager at the NHBC, said those celebrated were among the top site managers in the country.

“All the winners have shown exceptional knowledge, management, quality control, and care in their work, and are deservedly congratulated as among the best in the industry,” he said. “I wish them the very best of luck in the next round of judging for the Supreme Awards.”

Judges added they were impressed with the speed at which Jack had climbed the career ladder to run his own site. They praised his "consistently high standards” and his “attention to detail" throughout the location.

A total of six Bovis Homes colleagues won a Pride in the Job Quality Award across the country this year, the same number as last year and the housebuilder’s highest amount since 2004.

To determine the Pride in the Job Award winners, judges assessed the skills demonstrated by the site managers in their day-to-day work, over 12 months.

Four site managers will be announced as overall Supreme winners at a gala ceremony in London in January.
